Welcome to the Foodchain

The trees blew against the wind
On the days of Odin
One side clenched the earth as the other
Strained for the sky
And maybe not the brightest
But the one most prone to the light
Felt compelled to open his eyes

A day like any other
Although he’ll swear the first with color
The mist cleared for a personal
Glimpse at the stars
For the objects that he saw
Manifest within the wall
Didn’t seem to reach out quite so far
And the voices that they heard
Were now distorted by his words
And at least for one
Lost their comforting tone

The mass saw him heading for the door
Ignoring faint memories of this before
They all stopped and turned and stared
For when the pipers tune was played
Few gave second thought to stay
For the day’s sacred cow had now
taken form

Of those that thought and those that’ve seen
Would you yourself still claim to be
The one who stayed behind to boast
That he’d in fact learned the most (No Sir!)

A tangent of non-conformity
Needs little rational to be
The people’s flavor of the week
The opiate the injured seek

Rockin' in the castle
Fuck the fields for today
No need to stain your heart with disdain
We just need to find a way
To escape the trials and tribulations
plaguing our days
Cause with all our eyes shut tight
We can't tell that there's no light

Bathing in the sunlight
Fuck your problems today
No need to stain your heart with disdain
We just need to find a way
To escape the trials and tribulations
plaguing our days
Cause with all our eyes shut tight
We can't tell that there's no light

The mass saw him heading for the door
Ignoring faint memories of this before
They all stopped and turned and stared
For when the pipers tune was played
Few gave second thought to stay
For the day’s sacred cow had now
taken form
