There’s a snake in my apartment
Though rough around the edges
If you come by please walk softly
Each night he tries to escape
And he’s lonely and he’s hungry
Yes he’s back at my apartment
Wanting food and company
Is this song a metaphor
Or should you take it at face value
Well maybe you should come to my apartment and see
I’ll still swear to you he’s harmless
His actions that may seem rude
Are pure curiosity
You see guests come by so rarely
That he tends to get excited
Though that leads to some anxiety
Perhaps keep your hands away
And be mindful of the lights
For he longs to walk in sunshine
But he still prefers the night
Though he’s speckled with the colors
Wishing all watchers could see
He confines these traits within himself
His world of small capacity
His personally constructed cage
With Each attempt resulting
In the same end as the last
He desires the life that he perceives
Within the light, it seems to me
That each step closer to his goal
Makes life within the glass seem free
